Better Tech Kids privacy policy

Policy version: 6 October 2026

Better Tech Kids is Jake Heading’s book companion for parents and carers making projects with a child. This policy describes the native iPhone and iPad companion.

Your project stays in the app

The app stores one current project on your device: its selected recipe, name, ticked steps, next-step note, parked ideas, reflection and finished state. This information lets you return to your work. It is not sent to Jake or to an app server.

The app does not ask for your name, email, age or a child’s profile. Avoid putting sensitive personal details in your notes. Anyone with access to your unlocked device may be able to open the app and read them.

No tracking or accounts

There are no accounts, advertisements, tracking tools, analytics SDKs or cloud-sync service in the app. It does not record audio or video or request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, photos or location.

Guide content, recipes, illustrations and this policy are bundled with the app. Reading them and keeping project notes work offline. Apple may separately process store, purchase or device-diagnostic information under its own policies and your settings.

Keeping or clearing your notes

Your project remains on this device until you clear or replace it, or remove its app data. Finishing a project keeps its notes so you can read or resume it. Starting another project and clearing the current one both ask for confirmation.

The app keeps one project, rather than an archive of finished projects. Copy any notes you want to keep elsewhere before clearing or replacing them. Jake cannot see, recover, export or delete the notes stored on your device.

Backups and separate devices

Your iPhone and iPad keep separate project notes; the companion does not sync them. Device backups may include app data depending on your Apple or computer backup settings. Clearing notes in the app does not erase older backups.

Deleting the app can delete its local notes. Offloading an app and deleting it have different effects on stored data; check your device settings before relying on either. Apple’s device and backup services have their own privacy terms.

Opening a website or using another tool

When you tap a website link, it opens in your browser. The app does not attach your project notes, checklist or reflection to these links. The destination website and browser may process information such as your IP address, cookies or account details under their own policies.

The creative tools mentioned in a recipe are separate products. Their recording, file-storage, account and sharing behaviour is not controlled by this companion. An adult should review the chosen tool before a child uses it.

Contact and support

You can contact Jake at jakeheading@gmail.com or through the contact page below. Sending a message is optional and happens outside this app. Your email address and anything you include in the message are handled by the email services involved. The app does not send your project notes automatically.

Support correspondence is used to respond to your request and kept for as long as needed to handle it and any applicable record-keeping obligations. To ask about access to or deletion of a message you sent, contact Jake. Please leave children’s names, sensitive details and project notes out of support messages unless they are necessary.

Families and policy changes

The companion is written for adults guiding a child. It does not create child profiles or collect children’s project notes through an app service.

If the app’s data practices change, this policy will be updated. You can find the version date above and contact Jake with a privacy question.
